Post doctoral position in Microbial Soil Ecology, establishing an operational definition of soil quality based on performance of microbiomes. at the Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen, German Research Center for Envi-ronmental Health (HMGU)

ER3, 2 years starting 01 Jan 2013 to 31 December 2014

The successful candidate will use high throughput sequencing, bioinformatics and statistics to analyze interaction pattern between phytopathogenic microbes and their antagonists in soil. . In the frame of this project unifactorial as well as multifactorial experiments will be performed in greenhouse studies investigating the role of selected abiotic and biotic factors steering abundance, diversity and activity of biocontrol active microbes in soil. In addition field experiments using plant litter from selected plant species will be performed. Data will be included in a mechanistic model on microbial interactions in soil that will be developed in collaboration with other partners of the framework
The position is funded for 2 years through a recently established “Trainbiodiverse” FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network. We are looking for an expert applicant with documented qualifications covering:

● Ph.D. in, microbiology, molecular biology or similar relevant discipline.
● Experience with high throughput sequencing including pyrosequencing or Ilumina sequencing will be advantageous.
● Documented experience of bioinformatic research tools.
● Experience of standardised sampling methods and nucleic acid isolation.
● Documented experience with molecular tools including Q-PCR.
● Fluency in English.
● You will be able to engage in teamwork within the group and our collaborators.

Recruiting is in accordance with the rules for Marie Curie Initial Training Networks. Post doctoral candidates must either be in position of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. In both cases they should have less than 5 years of full-time research experience.
At the time of selection by the host organisation, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.

An assessment committee will be appointed to evaluate the applications.
The final selection of a successful candidate will be made by Prof. Michael Schloter, based on the recommendations of the assessment committee. Terms of employment and the salary of the candidate will be in accordance with the rules and regulations laid down in the Marie Curie Grant Agreement.
