Brief Biography: 

Maria de Vries, born September 16th, 1987, is a PhD student at the Research Unit Environmental Genomics in the Helmholtz Zentrum München since November 2012. She received her diploma in Biology from the University of Groningen (RUG) in December 2011, after working on the oxidative stress response of Bacillus subtilis during her first research project and on the influence of different plant species on the population of Fusarium oxysporum in the soil during her second research project, which she did at the Wageningen University. During her PhD project, which is part of the Trainbiodiverse FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training network, she will be focussing on the degradation of cellulose by soil microorganisms and the contribution of biodiversity to this process.
